At Temple Terrace Church of Christ, we believe that God’s Word was never meant to stay on a page. It was meant to be lived. Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Following Jesus requires more than belief—it requires obedience.
It’s easy to admire Scripture from a distance. But the Bible is not a collection of good ideas or comforting sayings. It’s the instruction of our Creator, the roadmap to eternal life, and the only sure foundation in a shifting world. If salvation is the goal—and it is—then putting faith into action is how we walk the narrow road that leads there.
Why Practicing God’s Word Matters
Scripture makes it clear: faith without action is dead (James 2:17). The one who hears and does nothing is like a man building his house on sand (Matthew 7:26). But the one who hears and obeys? He is wise. He is secure. He is blessed. Jesus promised fullness of joy to those who abide in Him, and He teaches us that abiding in Him means living out His commandments (John 15:5-11).
Our goal is not to simply hear sermons and read verses—we want to practice God’s Word in our homes, our workplaces, our friendships, and even in our private thoughts. That’s what it means to live out our faith.
Obedience isn’t about perfection—it’s about direction. It’s about striving daily to align your life with God’s will. We don’t just want to hear sermons and read verses—we want to practice God’s Word in our homes, our workplaces, our friendships, and even in our private thoughts. That’s what it means to live out our faith.
Applying God’s Word In Daily Life
The Christian life isn’t just about Sunday mornings. It’s about Monday mornings too—when the alarm rings early, when traffic is frustrating, when temptation whispers, and when no one’s watching.
Applying God’s Word in daily life means choosing honesty when lying would be easier. It means speaking with gentleness when others are rude. It means turning off what’s impure, turning away from pride, and turning toward things that are good and true (Philippians 4:8).
Paul tells Timothy, “All Scripture is breathed out by God… that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16–17). God’s Word is meant to guide every part of life. Whether you're making decisions, raising children, or battling temptation, applying God’s Word in daily life brings clarity and purpose.
When we focus on living according to the Bible, we develop habits that reflect Christ in all we do. And that’s exactly the kind of life God calls us to.
Biblical Principles for Daily Life
Living according to the Bible doesn’t require guessing what’s right or wrong. God has already told us. He’s given us clear, biblical principles for daily life:
- Love the Lord with all your heart (Deuteronomy 6:5)
- Love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31)
- Let your speech be gracious and seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6)
- Rejoice always, pray constantly, and give thanks in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18)
- Flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness (2 Timothy 2:22)
These aren’t outdated commands. They are biblical principles for daily life that remain timeless, true, and vital. When we commit to living according to the Bible, we aren’t just avoiding sin—we’re walking toward salvation.
Putting Faith Into Action in a World That Pulls You Away
We live in a world that doesn’t encourage godliness. It encourages comfort, pleasure, self-promotion, and compromise. But Jesus calls us to something higher—something better.
Putting faith into action means living differently on purpose. That difference may cost you something, but it’s worth everything. Hebrews 12:1–2 reminds us to lay aside every weight and run the race with endurance, keeping our eyes on Jesus.
You are not alone in this. That’s why the church exists. At Temple Terrace, you’ll find a family of believers committed to walking in truth. We are genuine, imperfect people who fall and get up again, helping each other stay faithful.
If you’re unsure how to practice God’s Word, you’ll find the teaching, support, and encouragement here to help you stay grounded and grow stronger.
What If I Fail?
What if you’ve already failed? What if you’ve drifted from what you know is right?
There is grace. There is hope. Peter denied Christ, yet he was restored and became a pillar in the early church. God is patient with us—not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
Practicing God’s Word doesn’t mean you’ll never stumble. It means you keep getting up and pressing on. It means surrounding yourself with others who will lift you up, study with you, pray for you, and point you back to Christ.
At Temple Terrace, we want to be that kind of church for you—helping you grow by applying God’s Word in daily life, one step at a time.
Walk the Way That Leads to Life
Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). The way to life is through Him. And the only way to walk that path is by doing what He says.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” – James 1:22
Don’t settle for knowing Scripture in theory. Learn how to practice God’s Word daily. Let it shape your heart, your choices, and your eternity.
