How Deep The Father's Love

I was introduced to that song last year and it quickly became one of my favorites. "How deep the Father's love for us! How vast beyond all measure! That He would give His only Son, to make a wretch His treasure!"

God loves us. There is no greater thought in our Bible. His love is a choice. It's not based on us or we'd be in trouble. We think we're impressive. We're not. We think we're clever. We're not. We think we're superior. We're not.

We're sinful. We're broken. Most broken things are thrown away. But not us... because God loves us. Broken vows, broken hearts, broken habits, broken attitudes, broken words, broken lives. Still yet, God loves us.

Paul prayed that the Ephesians would "be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge..." Did you catch that? Paul wants them to "comprehend" something that he acknowledges "surpasses knowledge."

But there are some things we do know. God's love is wide enough to include everyone. Every sinner, every saint, every race, every nation.

God's love is long enough to last every day. Some of you reading these lines have been hurt by loves that did not last. Love that was promised but not fulfilled. But God's love is an "everlasting" love.

God's love is high enough to cover everything. There is nothing that you have done that is sufficient to cause God to stop loving you. There is no sin so grevious that God can't forgive.

God's love is deep enough to be everywhere. Hardships can make one wonder if God has turned His back on us. He hasn't. He loves those in prisons and He loves those in church buildings.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son..." As long as there is silouhetted on Calvary's hill the cross of the Son of God, I will never question, regardless of circumstance, whether God loves me.

On long and dark days, you are loved by God. When life has wrung the life out of you, you are loved by God.

Being loved by God doesn't make me better than others. God help us never be like the Pharisee who "trusted in himself that he was righteous and looked down on others." In fact, God's love should motivate me to tell others. Many don't know of His love. Many have doubts about His love. Our words, our lives can make all the difference.
